Rishallah is here at the beginning of this gallery of Magical Tools because making her marks the very beginning of my work with cardboard and with the glue-paint mixture I work with. I met Rishallah one autumn night on a hillside near Willits, California about 100 years after the last of those who once spoke her name were either killed or exiled. This is my homage to her memory . . . She was formed of un-fired red clay coils and painted with a special mixture of glue and acrylic paint. The midnight-purple paint covering her body includes bit of Mother-of-Pearl. Her har is Spanish Moss and her headdress includes Owl feathers and tail, beads and a Thistle. She wears earrings and a necklace as well.
